If you are not satisfied with the service you received, please contact the manager of the relevant court office as soon as possible. They will try to resolve the issue quickly.
If you are not satisfied, or prefer not to raise it at the time, you can make a formal complaint by:

How we handle complaints
- Resolve at first point where possible
- We aim to resolve complaints quickly and informally.
- Acknowledgement within 3 working days
- We will confirm we have received your complaint and give you the contact details of the officer handling it.
- Response within 15 working days
- We will send a full reply within 15 working days. If this is not possible, we will send an update and a date for the full response.
- Fair and confidential
- We handle all complaints promptly, fairly, impartially and in confidence, and we review outcomes to improve our services.

What is not covered by this complaints process
- Judges are independent under the Constitution. The conduct of a case and judicial decisions are matters solely for the presiding judge.
- Decisions of the courts cannot be appealed to or reviewed by the Courts Service. Appeals must be made through the courts.
- Some quasi-judicial decisions (for example, by County Registrars, the Master of the High Court, Legal Costs Adjudicators and other officers) can only be appealed to the court.
- Complaints about legal professionals or other bodies must be directed to the relevant organisation.
Complaints under the Disability Act 2005
You can complain if you believe we have not complied with sections 25 to 28 of the Disability Act 2005 (access to buildings, services or information).

- Guardian or person acting in loco parentis
- Legal representative
- Advocate (with your consent)
How to complain
Email or write to us stating that it is a complaint under section 38 of the Disability Act 2005.
Include in your complaint
- Your name, address, phone number and email address
- Whether you were trying to access information, a service or a building
- Details of how we failed to provide access under sections 25–28

What happens next
- Acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days.
- Investigate and prepare a report stating whether your complaint is valid and whether the Courts Service failed to comply.
- Reply within 21 working days, or tell you when the report will be available.
- Send a copy of the report to you and the Chief Executive Officer.
- Advise you of your right to appeal to the Ombudsman.
