Responding to your jury summons
What to do when you receive a jury summons
Your jury summons, which you will receive by post, will tell you:
- the date you should attend the court
- the time you are expected to show up
- the court location where you need to appear
How to reply to your jury summons
You can reply to your jury summons in two ways:
- Online: Visit jury.courts.ie and enter the details on your jury summons. This is the quickest and easiest way to respond.
- By post: Fill out the form included with your summons and return it by post.
Ignoring your jury summons
You must respond to the summons by confirming your attendance or asking to be excused from jury service.
It is an offence to ignore your jury summons, and doing so can result in a fine.
What happens after you reply to your jury summons
The next steps depend on your response:
If you accepted your jury summons:
Attend court on the date and time indicated. Bring your summons with you on the day.
You won’t receive further updates unless there are changes to the court details or the jury is no longer required.
If you requested to be excused from jury service:
You will typically receive a response within 14 working days. If your request is not granted, you must attend jury service. The local court office will inform you of the decision.
- By post: You will get a reply by post. The court office may contact you for more information.
- Online: You will get a response by email. The court office may contact you for more information.
